You are sitting in your car at a stoplight waiting for the green light when your car suddenly lurches forward; you have just been rear-ended.  You pull over to a safe area, review the damage to your car, and notice that the rear of your car is severely damaged.  The other party apologizes profusely and acknowledges that this is "all their fault."  You exchange contact and insurance information and drive off.

You hesitate calling your agent because the accident was certainly not your fault, and the other person's insurance will pay.  You get an estimate on the damage and find (to your surprise and horror) that it will cost $6,000 to repair your car.  The following day, the other person's insurance carrier calls you, assures you all will be fine, and asks that you send the estimate to them along with a picture of the damage to your car.  You do as requested.  The next day, you again receive a phone call from the other person's carrier.

Now the fun begins...

The insurance carrier is mystified because their analysis of the damage to your car and their internal estimate costs reveal that they can only reimburse you for $4,500 for the damage.  Now what?

You call your agent.  She tells you that your own policy carries collision coverage, which means the damage to your car will be fully covered...less your $1,000 deductible.  She also tells you that your insurance company will subrogate against the other carrier, and hopefully recover 100% of the costs.  You will have your entire deductible returned to you...if your insurance company is successful in the subrogation.

What a headache!  You were completely innocent in this situation, yet you have to put out $1,000 of your own money and hope that you get it all back after weeks, if not months of waiting.

Anything else you can do?  You bet.  Along with the above information given to you by your PCG Agencies agent, she will direct you to obtain a second estimate on your damage.  This second estimate will prove that the other carrier's estimate is wrong.  Your PCG Agencies agent will send the second estimate to the other party's carrier demanding payment immediately.  You get your full payment in the next couple of days, and although you spent quite a bit of time and agony on this...through the help of your PCG Agencies agent, you were made whole without having to spend $1,000 and then hope you get it back!!!
